The Karate Kid (Busby's Review)
Well 24 hours after seeing that GOD awful movie Splice I saw the complete OPPOSITE. A GOOD MOVIE! Jaden Smith has the power of his dad flowing in him in this remake of Karate Kid. The lil Fresh Prince plays Dre Parker, a 12 year old kid that moved from Detriot to Beijeg, China with his mother (played by Taraji P. Henson). After getting constatly picked on and beat up (Kung-Fu style) by the school bullies, he gets help by Mr. Han (Played by Jackie Chan), to teach him martial arts. With his help, Dre learns the ways of Kung Fu, with his own take on the "wax on, wax off" technique and teaches him life lessons and how he should never back down to anybody.
Not gonna lie, the movie had heart, and lil Jaden showed that he didn't need the help from his mommy and daddy (even through both of them produced the film). Jackie Chan did his thing too, he didn't really have alot of fight scenes besides the lil fight scene you saw in the trailer. In fact, it was the ONLY fight scene that Jackie Chan fought in, which was kind of a change for him. He actually showed off his acting skills, and showed that he actually has acting skills, and hopefully he will be in more dramatic roles.
The real star of this movie is the lil fresh prince himself Jaden Smith. After co-starring with his dad in Pursuit of Happiness, and his little role in The Day The Earth Stood Still, Jaden decided that he should show Hollywood that he should be taking serious as an actor. I guess he has been studying his dad's work because I saw alot of his dad's mannerisms in him. His acting brought you into the film and had you rooting for him to the very end.
It got to a point during the movie that I was yelling at the screen screaming for Jaden to whip those lil asain kids ass! If a movie can get an emotion of me, then the movie is doing a good job. The story did a good job keeping the audience attention and it was entertaining to say the least.
This movie surprised the hell out of me, I didn't think it was going to be THAT good. Even through it DID have some corny moments, it wasn't really over the top and it did serve it's purpose. After this weekend, Jaden Smith is going to be a huge star, he is going to be a pretty big deal. This is the move that MADE Jaden Smith..
The last young star that had a big blockbuster hit became a star over night..
I wish I had the power of Will...
