Battleship & Dictator: Busby's Review

Here are some quick movie reviews for y'all...

Well this is one of my most anticipated movies of the summer and I pretty much got what I paid for.  A good popcorn flick to say the least.  Based on the board game of the same name, Battleship tells the story of the Navy seals lead by Taylor Kitsch and his crew members (which consist of Rihanna and other folks) defending the planet from an alien invasion.  It focuses on Taylor Kitsch's character who is pretty much a fuck up in life and his older brother (played by Alexander Skarsgård) makes him join the service.  A few months later, he gets a pretty high ranking in the military, but he still manages to fuck it up.  Meanwhile NASA discovers a planet a few light years away, so OF COURSE they make contact with it.  Sure enough the aliens show up and wreck havoc, its up to the military to save the world. The movie is pretty cut and dry, what you see in the trailer is pretty much what you see in the movie.  Only complaint I have about the movie was that he had a pretty slow build up in the beginning and it kinda drags.  The special effects are cool through, and the action is top notch, which is expected.  This was also Rihanna's acting debut and she was alright I guess, she barely had alot of lines but she served her purpose.  Other then that, the movie was alright for what it is, stay after the credits too, sets up a sequel.

Sacha Baron Cohen returns with his antics this time he comes as Admiral General Aladeen, dictator of Wadiya the north republic of North Africa.  He comes to America to speak at the U.N. until he gets kidnapped and he gets his beard shaved.  Now he is out in NYC on his own and he is taken in by Zoey (Anna Faris) and works at her environmental shop.  If you enjoyed Borat and Bruno (pause), then you know what are getting yourself into.  I mean the first shot of the movie is a "In Memoriam" picture of Kim Jong-Il.  Cohen is a funny ass dude, and he is not afraid to piss people off with his political jokes.  The movie isn't as good as Borat, but I had a pretty good time, I'm not gonna lie.  It's worth the money.

John Carter: Busby's Review

Well Disney always knows how to make epic movies, and in my opinion I think they have a real franchise in their grasp. John Carter is based off Edgar Rice Burroughs 11-volume Barsoom series of novels. It tells the story of a rouge Civil War solider who gets transported to Mars and pretty much becomes a Superman like hero to an alien race. That is pretty much the story in a nutshell with out getting to deep into it.

John Carter is played by Taylor Kitsch who you might remember him for his role as Tim Riggins on the TV show Friday Night Lights (which is one of the greatest television shows of all time by the way), and in my opinion they picked the right man to play the role. Along with John Carter, dude is gonna be in the new Battleship movie later on this summer. I think it's safe to say that his paycheck is going to look rather bigger by the end of the year.

The special effects were top notch, but what else can you expect from a Disney film? It was almost Lucas inspired light weight, but they did a damn good job at it. My only ripe I have with the movie is that it DID drag on for a little too long, and it did have some cliche corny lines here and there, but it didn't really hurt the movie that much in my opinion. The ending of the movie really did set up for a sequel, and HOPEFULLY this movie makes a lot of money for Disney to consider it. Especially with all the time and effort they put into this flick, and how they promoted the SHIT out of it. However, Disney DID have a failed franchise with the Nania series, however I kinda feel they didn't really give that series a proper chance.

The critics have been mixed on their reviews for this movie, they actually wrote it off for the past few months. However, some critics have been out of touch of late on the next big thing. But hey that is just my opinion, John Carter has the potential to be the next big franchise for the Micky Mouse corporation. Hopefully Disney doesn't write this off as failure. Honestly, Disney can't afford to rely on Pixar to save their asses every damn year. In my opinion John Carter can be the next big franchise **fingers crossed**

Project X (Busby's Review)

Now if somebody asks me to describe this movie, here is how I would describe this film. If Superbad and House Party were chilling together and they bumped into The Hangover and decided to have a night out together, and during that night out they met up with that movie The Kids and THEN decided to do acid and a shit load of other drugs. THAT is EXACTLY what Project X is, if you seen the trailers for the movie, you already know what you are in for.

Project X is let ANOTHER movie from the found footage genre, this time around we follow 3 teenage boys who decided to throw birthday party while their parents are away for the weekend. Now this just ain't just ANY birthday party, this is gonna be the ULTIMATE party. They are going to throw this party just to make a name for themselves at their high school. Now of course they decide to document this on their video camera by one of their high school acquaintance who is rather silent through out the movie. However, he does say a few lines here and there, but his job was just to film and film only. I know it sounds cliche enough, but what else is original these days in Hollywood?

The first 15 min of the movie is rather slow of course because they are getting ready for the party, (Invites, grocery shopping, bullshit to mom and dad, picking up drugs, etc) but I rather call that the calm before the storm. As soon as the party guest show up, that is when shit gets going. Now let me just tell you that the movie trailer and the TV spots does NOT do the movie justice. The shit that is in this movie CANNOT be shown on network television, to be honest I was surprised it kept that R rating. From drinking, to drug use, to sex, to everything you can think of, this really is a teenagers best dream, and a parent's worst nightmare. Pretty much this movie was long form version of this video..

I also had to suspend my common logic and use my movie logic A LOT of the time. I mean seriously this shit was more of a club then a fucking house party. Another thing, I REALLY couldn't understand how there was over a THOUSAND people at the party and was LOUD AS SHIT and the cops were only called ONCE. Well, there WERE white, because if these dudes were black that party would have ended 10 min after it started, but I digress.

Other then that, the movie was funny as hell, I was either having a big smile on my face or LMAO through out the ENTIRE movie. It also brought back some memories of some house parties I went to in my teenage years. Of course it didn't get as crazy like in this movie, but it was pretty up there. The soundtrack was good too, it set the mood right through the entire movie. It was pretty much the soundtrack for our generation of youth, which is pretty scary and sad if you think about it, but lets save that for another time.

All in all, Project X is the ultimate party movie for our generation of youth. Shit, I might go and say that this movie might be cult classic some where down the line. You KNOW what you are getting yourself into as soon as the movie starts, it's a CELEBRATION BITCHES! So enjoy yourself! Shit I might just go and see this movie again....

Safe House: Busby's Review

King Kong ain't got SHIT on ME!!

Denzel is one of the best actor's of ALL time, there is no denying that. After Training Day, Denzel has done more roles to show how much of a smooth killer he can play. This movie is no exception, Safe House is a story about a rouge CIA agent (Denzel) who escapes from a CIA-operated safe house with the help of the house's house sitter (Ryan Reynolds) after it gets attacked by terrorist. Through out the movie Ryan Reynolds's character play a cat and mouse game with Denzel when he discovers that there is more to Denzel's character that meets the eye, and uncovers a whole mess of shit that he wished he never found out.

The movie was decent for what it was, it was lightweight predicable. I saw the twist coming a mile away, actually i figured it out 10 minutes into the movie. Anyway, if you can get beyond that, the movie is a pretty good action flick, not gonna lie. Denzel and Ryan really do play good off each other, however Denzel really does carry the flick, like he always does in damn near all his movies. Ryan Reynolds did alright for what its worth, but to be honest I think he was miscasted. To be honest I could have seen Leonardo DiCaprio playing that supporting role, but hey that is just me.

All in all, it is what it is, you know what you gonna get coming in. Denzel beating niggas asses, car chases, and explosions. That is pretty much the jist of it, decent flick.
